Dear Friends,
This is the page where we ask you to become part of our political/cultural community and support the Los Angeles Activist Video Archive with your donations. Community has always been very important to us and the notion of community transcends a zip code, a city or even a country.
I have been involved with the Liberty Hill Foundation since their first public event in 1976 when I was working with Holly Near, and she sang at a benefit screening of the documentary WITH BABIES AND BANNERS sponsored by Sarah Pillsbury's fledgling foundation, Liberty Hill.
Much of our political film work and certainly the inspiration for the Activist Video Archive grew out of the people we met and issues we have supported and championed as a part of the extended Liberty Hill Community. We didn't have the means to be donors (except on the smallest of scales) so we helped Liberty Hill become a force in Southern California with our short films, often profiling people they were honoring at an annual event, and in the early days, even helping to produce the annual dinner.
When we started the Activist Video Archive, we went to dear friends who had just formed the Chino Cienega Foundation. They understood that our progressive political history was being ignored, rewritten or slanted by those in power. They supported the fledgling days of the Archive and also our first feature film effort, ROBERT SCHEER - ABOVE THE FOLD which will be in distribution by the end of 2018. Chino Cienega has challenged us with matching grants and to leverage their giving with those of other foundations.
So please, consider becoming a co-producer of our projects with us by making a donation, large or small. You can get a tax deduction by giving to Liberty Hill. Please memo the Los Angeles Activist Video Archive (LAAVA).
In the coming months, there will screenings of ROBERT SCHEER - ABOVE THE FOLD for donors, and will organize other public events highlighting our work. Please get on the mailing list so we can contact you and thank you in person for becoming a part of our project.
If you have any questions about the film, or the Activist Video Archive or about our political sensibilities, please send them to us at: info@activistvideoarchive.org. We would love to hear from you.
